Imagine: an unused roof that is transformed into a bustling, green, productive place where vegetables are grown and even chickens run around. And that right among people. Well, then you could say that, with a rooftop farm, we literally bring nature back to the city. And, you strengthen awareness around local food production and create an inspiring meeting place.
In a time when cities are becoming increasingly densely populated, this is an innovative solution for climate adaptation, biodiversity restoration and social cohesion. Head in the clouds already? After the success of PAKT in Antwerp, where an abandoned industrial zone was transformed into a bustling rooftop farm, Forest Forward and Volle Grond have joined forces. This is how we work together, among other things, in the context of an ambitious, new roof project in the Kruitfabriek in Vilvoorde.
Rooftop farms are projects that often only occur in cities. And that's because they are where we need such 'green roofs' the most. Together you contribute to cooling cities and reducing floodings. And, you help realize a healthy living environment for plants, animals and people.
Vegetables, fruit and herbs are grown on site. This stimulates short chains and sustainable consumption. And equally important: by being so conscious and local with food, people start thinking again about what's on their plate.
You help build a place where people can learn about urban agriculture, permaculture and sustainable food systems. And rest assured, there is a need for that.
You bring employees, companies, local residents, customers and organizations together in an inspiring green environment.
This is innovation, right? It seems obvious, such a rooftop farm, but it's anything but. By working together, by gathering the right expertise and the right people, we try to make these kinds of projects possible and build the city of tomorrow.
